HUKARI provided expert engineering, management mentoring, and technical assistance in:

• Preparation, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of integrated plans, policies, processes, and procedures that ensure efficient and focused operations

• Ensuring compliance with DOE’s requirements and expectations for nuclear safety, hazard categorization and operation of nuclear facilities, and application of appropriate and necessary quality assurance principles

• Development of an integrated operations plan, including evaluation of facilities end-state options

• Participation in appraisals of compliance with DOE requirements and expectations

• Readiness assessments

• Providing recommendations for improvement in general or specific program elements

• Providing guidance regarding responses to changing conditions at ANL and/or pending or new DOE requirements and expectations

• Reviewing the Criticality Safety Program and assess compliance to DOE Orders, regulations, standards, manuals, and guides governing nuclear criticality safety and provide compliance status/documentation and recommendations for improvement
  

• Reviewing of applicable program manuals and procedures (current and proposed drafts) that implement the Criticality Safety Program, and evaluated the adequacy of the program with respect to the handling, processing, moving, and storage of nuclear materials

• Assessing administrative controls, systems and hardware necessary to address the potential criticality hazards that exist

• Providing recommendations for graded, cost-effective approaches to meet the applicable requirements were developed
